Class B airspace

Most Class B airports are found in large, busy metropolitan areas with significant air traffic. They are major commercial airports that serve as major hubs for airline operations and passenger travel.

Controlled Airspace

Extends upward from surface (sometimes higher up to specified altitudes)

Floor & Cieling

Denoted by one number over a second number or the letters SFC (i.e. 10/300 or 10 / SFC)

Comms Requirements

  • Must have a two-way radio communication capability
  • Must have a transponder equipped with Mode C altitude reporting (allows ATC to monitor your positions and altitudes accurately.(

Class C airspace

Most Class C airports are found in mid-sized cities with moderate air traffic levels. They are typically regional airports that serve a mix of commercial, private, and general aviation aircraft and have a control tower to manage air traffic within their airspace.

Controlled Airspace

Inner surface area: Radius of 5 NM and extends from surface up to 4,000 feet above the airport (AGL).

Outer surface area: Radius of 10 NM and extends vertically from 1,200 feet AGL up to 4,000 feet above airport.
